Robert E. Lee, in full Robert Edward Lee, was an American Confederate general, born in January 19, 1807, at Stratford, Westmoreland county, Virginia, U.S.—died October 12, 1870, Lexington, Virginia, is best known as a commander of the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War.
