The International Day of Yoga or the International Yoga Day is observed on 21st June every year since 2015, yoga is a physical, mental and spiritual practice which is originated in India, as it is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, it shares special importance in many parts of the world. The International Day of Yoga aims to raise awareness worldwide of the many benefits of practicing yoga, Recognizing its universal appeal, on 11 December 2014. The word is derived from Sanskrit, 'yoga' which means to join or to unite.

The United Nations General Assembly was declared June 21st as the International Day of Yoga on December 11 in 2104. The day was celebrated at Rajpath and the arrangements were made by the Ministry of AYUSH. Narendra Modi and dignitaries from 84 nations participated in the celebrations and performed 21 yoga asanas (yoga postures).
