Renowned folk singer and actress Paravai Muniyamma breathed her last in the early hours of Sunday (March 29) due to age-related ailments. Aged 83, she passed away at her residence in Madurai.

Muniyamma is survived by his son and her last rites will take place today evening at Madurai.
The singer, who rose to fame with her song Singam Pola from Chiyaan Vikram's Dhool, had been battling illnesses for several years. Last year, there were rumours about her death. But, she rubbished them as speculations with a video message from her hospital.
Back in 2015, Paravai Muniyamma fell critically ill and was hospitalised. Actors Dhanush and Sivakarthikeyan donated money to take care of her medical expenses. The then Tamil Nadu chief minister, J Jayalalithaa, opened a Rs 6 lakh fixed deposit in her name for further treatment.
