The bird 's nest was built on a switchboard lit by street lights in the village. The locals decided to turn off the street lights until the bird hatched. Karuppurajan, a 20-year-old student, came up with the idea.
The student took a picture of the bird's eggs after noticing it on the switch board and circulated it to their local WhatsApp group.
In an area of about 100 families, 35 street lights were used. The student pleaded with the locals that turning off the street lights until the eggs hatch could save the bird's life. This demand was also taken up by the natives. Even women who were afraid to go out in the dark turned off the street lights and demanded that the sparrow be rescued.
