Haridwar Kumbh Mela: One of the chief priests who attended the Haridwar Kumbh Mela died of Covid-19. Earlier this week, Mahamandaleshwar Kapil Dev Das, 65, head of the Sannyasi Council, was admitted to the hospital. He died on Thursday of Covid-19 infection.
The Kumbha Mela was held amidst the second wave of Covid-19 expansion in the country. Health experts and others had warned from the beginning that the Kumbh Mela would lead to the spread of Covid-19.
The Kumbh Mela, which is held every 12 years, is attended by about 25 million people. The fair was attended by 4.6 million people over two days this week.
