Thiruvananthapuram: Former minister and JSS leader K. R. Gouri Amma passed away at the age of 102.
The death occurred around 7 p.m. She was treated at a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram for a congenital disease of old age.
Gowriamma was born on July 14, 1919, in Cherthala, Alappuzha. She completed her education at Maharaja's College, Ernakulam, and Law College.
She was the Revenue Minister in the First Communist government in Kerala. She was married to Communist leader T. V Thomas.
Gowriamma entered the communist movement through student politics and became active in Kerala politics through trade union activities and peasant movements.
In 1994, K. R. Gouri Amma was expelled from CPM, for allegations of anti-party activities. Following this, she was formed her party, The Janathipathiya Samrakshana Samithy (JSS).
Later, the JSS became part of the UDF, During 2001-06, K. R. Gouri Amma was in charge of the major departments in A K Antony and the Oommen Chandy cabinet. She has been handled the Revenue, Industry, Excise, Agriculture and Social Welfare Departments.
She later decided to cooperate with the LDF in 2016. Gouri Amma was well connected with Left Front leaders.
