Neethi Feminist Collective: On March 8th, 2021, a small group of people gathered near the Fort in Palakkad town with the thought of forming a feminist collective. This resulted in Neethi. It was not a sudden response but the result of a series of meetings and discussions held over the past three or four years.
This small group had earlier involved in a gender concern at Government Victoria College, on which occasion they identified the need for a feminist engagement with the society of Palakkad. Caste, economic and social inequality, moral policing, and ableism extended to the boundaries of this district, often mistakenly followed as the norm.
Neethi aims to go beyond mainstream politics and to stand with the people who have been driven out to the margins of society — LGBTQIA+ community members, Dalits, women, and children, the disabled, etc — while focussing on intersectional feminist ideologies and upholding constitutional values. The collective has opted for itself the slogan "Equal for All".
Neethi collective will act as a facilitator, cooperating with the government systems, to help the marginalized. Organizing public awareness classes on law and health, and addressing the problems in the existing structures of society will be a part of the work done by the collective.
Currently, Neethi exists as a collective and not as an organization. Therefore, there is no hierarchy in it. At the same time, some wings have been established for smooth functioning and for clarity in decision making.
Neethi would not lead but hopes to enable members of the community to come forward to lead.
The members of Neethi understand that the responsibility and the work will be intense. But we strive to bring together people for the betterment of those who have been systemically excluded while always focusing on upholding human values.
Equal for All!!!
