Former Indian football captain Olympian Chandrasekharan Passed away
O Chandrasekharan has passed away. He was the former captain of the Indian team and Indian footballer who competed in the 1960 Rome Olympics. Olympian Chandrasekaran was a member of the Indian team that won the Asian Games in 1962.
He had been bedridden for years. Chandrasekaran, who has led the Indian team in many tournaments, has always been a loyal defender of India.
Chandrasekharan, who made his presentation for the Indian team in 1958, made his professional football entry through the Caltex Club in Mumbai.
After retiring from the national team in 1966, Chandrasekaran played for the State Bank of Travancore, SBT (Presently State Bank of India, SBI) until 1973.
In addition to the Olympics and the Asian Games gold, Chandrasekharan won silver in the AFC Asian Cup in 1964 and silver in the Merdeka (Pestabola Merdeka) Cup in 1959 and 1964.
Chandrasekaran also competed in the qualifying round of the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. Chandrasekharan is a native of Iringalakuda in the Thrissur district in Kerala.
