What are the jobs of a fitness trainer?
1. Design an exercise program that is appropriate for one by understanding his/her age, physical goal, medical condition, past activity history, and physical limitations motivating and guiding.
2. Train people with cardiovascular & pulmonary (heart& lungs related) diseases, family health-related problems, metabolic conditions/injury/surgery, or any other medical condition only after making sure that they have a clearance certificate from a registered medical physician.
3. Understand the limitations and design the program accordingly for the client who received exercise clearance after physical therapy from their physician. Some exercises may adversely affect their medical condition, so, a fitness trainer should be aware of this and reschedule their workout plan with alternate exercises accordingly.
4. Some people, those who are not physically active because of not having any physical activity for a long time, are overweight, or who sit and work overtime are incapable to do workouts. Giving early over-training or high-intensity exercises such as running, speed walking, climbing stairs, jump roping, cross-country skiing to such people can lead to injury and delay in muscle recovery. So a trainer should prepare the client's body for various exercises.
5. The trainer should monitor the client throughout the exercise. If the posture or form is incorrect, it must be corrected. Bad posture may be the cause of the injury in muscles or joints. Similarly, proper breathing methods and muscle engagement should be taught and reminded from time to time.
6. If a person has any difficulty in doing an exercise, the trainer should understand them and give another easy exercise instead. As such, modifications should be made to the workout program as the client's workout progresses.
The health and physical conditions of each individual are different. It is the responsibility of a trainer to understand the physical abilities and illness of the clients to plan a workout accordingly, motivating, guiding and make them fit for a workout if needed.
