Covid-19 Quarantine Center: These are the Main Preparations of the Isolation Rooms
Isolation and quarantine are public health measurements taken to protect the public by avoiding social contact with those who have or may have a contagious disease.
Quarantine is a patient observation method by separating the person who was exposed to contagious disease from the public to see if they become sick. Quarantined people may have been exposed to a disease or virus attack and do not know it, or they may have affected but do not show symptoms.
Some of the main preparations of the Isolation Rooms are:
- Appropriate waste bags are mandatory in the waste bin. optionally, touch-free bin. Always check inside the isolation rooms for used bins.
- Must have puncture-proof container inside the isolation room or area for the isposal of sharps.
- It ensures that appropriate hand sanitization facilities and hand-hygiene products are available.
- Keep necessary equipment for cleaning or disinfecting the inside of the isolation room or area, and ensuring daily cleaning of the isolation room or area.
- Set up a telephone or other communication mode in the isolation room or area to enable patients, families, and visitors to communicate with health care workers.
- Replace all non-essential furniture to easy to clean, which do not conceal or retain dirt or moisture within or around it.
- Pre-stock enough PPE kits and linen outside the isolation room or nearby area.
- Indication symbols on the door are mandatory to indicate that space is an isolation area.
- Strict monitoring, that visitors consult the health-care workers in charge before entering into the isolation areas, health-care workers also responsible for keeping a visitor record. For possible outbreak investigation and further contact tracing, must keep a register of all staff who is in charge of the isolation areas.
- Set washing-sink area with needed handwashing supplements, and with alcohol-based hand sanitizer, next to the entry room door.
- Assure sufficient room ventilation.
- Keep the patient's personal belongings nearly to nothing.
- Keep all necessary items within the patient's reach for personal hygiene, water pitchers and cups, tissue wipes etc.
- Ensure dedicated non-critical patient-care equipment like the stethoscope, thermometer, blood pressure cuff, and sphygmomanometer, clean and disinfect patient-care equipment that is required for use by other patients before use just in case.
- For equipment that requires disinfection or sterilization, place a suitable container with a lid on the outside of the door.
