Vishnu Anil, an inborn artist, who has never practiced drawing under anyone, draws such amazing portraits and mural paintings. Most of his drawings are made with graphite and charcoal pencils.
Arts born in spare time: Meet Vishnu Anil, born master of Mural painting and Pencil Drawing; artist from Poonjar, Kottayam
"I started drawing in my childhood, without getting proper training from anyone. Comparing to career life, more time was spent during the study period. Nowadays, even in busy work schedules, special time is set aside for drawing to develop my intrinsic ability" - Says Vishnu.
What brings you to step into painting?
Some of my paintings got appreciation from others, this made me want to spend more time on paintings. As you know, encouragement makes us more energetic. So, I decided to improve my innate ability, which could not be ignored.
Which medium do you use the most for painting?
I use all sorts of mediums to draw, but the most done and felt comfortable is pencil drawings. Most of my artworks are done with graphite and charcoal pencils, he said.
As a curiosity, He tried drawing portraits on a mobile phone a few years ago and completed several portraits. "One of the advantages of mobile drawing is I can draw the ideas that come to mind, from anywhere in my free time," he said.
"I write my own short stories and sketch the contexts and characters, using digital media," he added.
Are you following any particular patterns for painting?
Academically, drawing has not yet been studied from anywhere, so no styles are followed on my drawings. Always wanted to do something different, therefore, on the one hand, scribbling portraits are practiced while practicing pencil drawing portraits as realistic as possible. In addition to pencil and charcoal, I also draw mural paintings.
What is the goal of your drawings?
Each person has a passion, and many go unnoticed by their circumstances or not using it properly. For me, art is my passion, I want to be known as an artist. But have not yet been able to mold me. All my artworks are new steps of my journey towards it.
How much time did you spend daily on painting?
In the current busy schedule, I do not have much time to draw. However, I try to set aside at least an hour a day for my artwork, most of the time I draw on holidays.
How does social media benefit you?
Viewer feedback on paintings as an artist is often the motivation to do more and improve. As such, I believe social media is a good platform. Also, I have to mention, the good friendships I got from social media platforms, with my drawing.
Which one is your favorite picture ever drawn?
As an artist, the utmost effort is taken to make an artwork more beautiful, the very latest painting that I draw seems to be my favorite of all time. But I like a mural the most that I did for the first time. Probably because I was doing it with passion, or maybe because, despite the drawing process without any special training, positive feedbacks were received from many professionals.
Which painters have influenced you the most?
Milind Mallick is the one I adore the most but never tried to imitate him. I have never seen such a talented artist who handles painting with ease and perfection in watercolor.
At my young age when I never saw any names of famous artists or their works, an artist who stuck in my mind was Mohan Manimala. He is still in that position today, in my opinion, such perfect humans (portraits) can only be born through his magical brushes.
In realistic portrait drawings, I also pay close attention to the artworks of Rajasekharan Parameswaran (Marthandam Rajasekharan) Sir, who is an Indian art director and self-taught painter from Tamil Nadu.
What other work do you do?
After completing the studies, I was worked as a designer for five years at Technopark, Thiruvananthapuram. At present, I am working in Dubai as a designing professional.
Although drawing is my passion, I have not yet chosen it as a means of livelihood. In the future, I want to pursue my career as an artist, Vishnu said.
